Postponed – Josh’s Pennies for Homes Campaign

Published: October 10, 2018

Joshua Morrison raised over $125,000 for Habitat for Humanity Durham – a remarkable feat!  Josh is 17 now, and started his quest to raise funds for a Habitat house in 2013 when he was just 12, and the penny was discontinued. His goal was to collect TEN MILLION PENNIES ($100,000), the average costs associated to build ONE Habitat house. Perseverance is this young man’s strength, and he reached his goal in four years, just before Christmas 2016! An additional $25,000 has come in since then – a truly remarkable feat for one so young!  Josh was given the 2015″ Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year Award”, in a ceremony at Queen’s Park, from Her Excellency, Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdswell. Last year, with CBC’s own Dwight Drummond, Josh received the Association of Fundraising Professionals “Youth in Philanthropy” Award at the Metro Convention Centre.

Habitat for Humanity Durham has now started construction on “Josh’s Penny House” in Oshawa. There will be a special “Penny House Build Day” on Monday October 22, 2018. Please join us to come out, volunteer and build together with Josh!

*All participants must be a minimum of 16 years old in order to build*
